Vigo is situated in northwest Spain on the Atlantic coast.

It is less than 25 kms from the North Portuguese border in the Galicia region, and unlike many other areas in Galicia, boasts some of the driest and sunniest weather conditions to be found in the region. Vigo is a beautiful city featuring breathtaking scenery and forty sandy beaches.
Vigo is a classical city. It has a population of some 300,000 residents and is packed full of wonderful architecture, including Romanesque and Gothic structures. The city is coastal, being located on the Ria de Vigo inlet - one of four making up the Rias Baixas.
The beaches around Vigo are very popular. Most are small and sandy, carved out in places by spectacular rock formations that plunge into the sea. The view from many of the beaches takes in Cies Island - a breathtaking island surrounded by pure white sandy beaches and home to one of Europe's most important nature reserves.
Vigo has much to offer, including many parks and gardens, beautiful squares and historical buildings. The Porta del Sol is officially the centre of the city and here you can see the tall sculpture named Sireno. The gilded figure is the work of Paco Leiro and represents a figure that is half man and half sea creature.
The old part of the city, 'Casco Vello' is certainly worth exploration with its tiny streets and little shops that sell all manner of local goods. Every Sunday a lively stamp and collectors market is held in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
