France's fourth largest metropolitan area, an international crossroads and a dynamic financial centre, Lille has been growing in popularity ever since the TGV arrived in 1993, followed a year later by Eurostar.

Lille was named European Capital of Culture in 2004, which helped boost the profile of the city.

Tourists come for its Flemish ambience, its excellent museums, great food and beer, and the world renowned Grande Braderie (Europe's biggest flea market).
Lille has a very young population (including many students), and a vibrant cultural scene.
It is known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, featuring a unique blend of Flemish tradition and French art de vivre.
Top attractions include the pedestrian streets of Vieux Lille (Old Lille), with its cobblestone streets and old Flemish town houses; the Grand'Place; the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy; the Opera House; and the Palais des Beaux Arts (Fine Arts Museum), widely acclaimed as France's second best museum after Le Louvre, housed in a Belle Epoque palace right in the city centre. The impressive collection includes paintings by Masters such as Donatello, Raphael, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, El Greco, David and Toulouse-Lautrec.
You won't want to miss the Maisons Folies (former factories converted into cultural venues), the incredible Zein Steam Baths build in the basement of a textile factory, and EuraLille, the new business district.
